What are the hazardous substances in a computer?

Computers are a main contributor to electronic waste (e-waste), which poses a major disposal issue because they are made up of a lot of components that are toxic to the environment. The Institute for Local Self-Reliance estimates that 75% of obsolete electronics are currently being stored, which will one day result in a massive disposal issue for the country and the world. With new technologies, there is an increasing opportunity to recycle computers, limiting the number that end up wastage area.
In both the European Union (EU) and China, laws has been recently introduced to control the use of certain hazardous chemicals in electrical products. In India there is currently no such laws to this problems.

Here are some hazardous substances in the computer :
• The heavy metals; lead, mercury, cadmium and hexavalent chrome (chromium (VI))
• Bromine content, indicative of brominated flame retardants (BFRs)
• PVC (polyvinyl chloride)
• Phthalates esters (phthalates)

What components can be recycled?
Floppy disks, ink cartridges, CDs, computer speakers and keyboards are accessories used only with computers. These items also should be properly handled to avoid excess e-waste. Some of these items contain materials that could easily be reused. For example, computer speakers are fairly standard, meaning they can be used for a variety of computer models. Other items cannot be easily transferred for reuse, like ink cartridges, but they can be refilled or recycled. Floppy disks and CDs are also unique in that some can be used over and over, but some have a one-time use (software and CD-Rs). As technology is getting better and better, improving to an even higher staandard people are changing their computers more often which therefore means they will be more electronic wastes. The institue for Local Self Local Reliance had said that they're 75% of electronic which is not used anymore but it is stored and will one day caused a big trouble to the world. The European union and China has gathered together and introduced a new policy which is "control the use of certain hazardous chemicals in electrical products" which will help the world however India one of the worlds developing countries still have no such laws to solve this problem.

To minimised the E-waste, components should be recycled and reused. Many of the components in a computer are standardized. Components can easily be reused since for example a mouseball is all the same size, keyboards and speakers have the same input so why should the manufacturers produce it again? can't they just recycle and make it better from the old one? If no one is helping out, everyone's world will be a disaster however pollution, contamination and global warming are the main concerns.

Printing Cartridges
1. Printing cartridges are picked up from the drop points and transported to collection centers and then shipped to our recycling partners who disassembles or processes the parts for recycling.
2. On arrival at the recycling facilities, printing cartridges are sorted and shredded.
Shredded cartridge materials are separated into plastics, metals, and residuals of ink, toner or foam.
3. Plastics and metals are further processed into raw materials to be used in everyday new products like pen, ruler, bench, etc.
4. Any remaining materials and residual ink or toner are utilized to generate energy or disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner.
